My Advice: Satisfy Yourself

Do what makes you happy in this life, which has a finite amount of time, and I say this even if the prospect of immortality is appealing to you. The next moment cannot be guaranteed in any way other than via the accomplishment of worthwhile and life-affirming endeavours. Having stated all of that, let me start this essay. Without deeds that are constructive and life-giving, life and existence actually are pointless and have no value in the absence of redemption. Moreover, pleasure does not involve overeating or otherwise unnecessarily saturating oneself; rather, it is being genuinely content with what one does during each and every instant of life and existence.

When I think of satisfaction, the last thing that comes to mind is overindulging in food or becoming excessively wealthy for my own good in any way. It is engaging in activities that bring about a genuine sense of fulfilment within myself. In point of fact, the genuine fantasy and double meaning in life is “satisfying gluttony,” which are two words that do not go together in any way, and the other side of that coin is “self-denial.” In point of fact, torturing yourself is not successful in any way, it is not “showing what you can take,” and it is a form of foolishness that is unproductive.

Because of his “pleasing gluttony” with regard to food, my father, Joseph Clayton Jr., passed away at the age of fifty-two. This was one of the mistakes that proved to be his undoing in this life. Well, it is one thing to enjoy your food, but to fulfil gluttony with irrationally “soothed” feelings is a completely different thing and is worse than anything you can do. Enjoying your food is only one thing. Certainly, in many respects, my father was a nice and ethical guy; yet, that one fatal fault, which can exist in everyone, can “derail” everything to a significant degree. Hence, the one catastrophic fault I made taught me that in all aspects of life, you or anybody else must practise the virtue of “rational satisfaction.” Some people call it “doing it till you are genuinely satisfied,” and many people call it “moderation.” I simply refer to it as “what works for me.” After all, any kind of deliberate self-denial is suffering in the purest sense of the term, and the same can be said for self-indulgence, even though your feelings could be fooled into thinking that it is wonderful. In the end, the previous sentence is both the “secret sauce” and the “hidden reality” behind any and all forms of drug addiction. After experiencing their initial “amazing high,” what is it that every drug addict strives to achieve again and again? They are engaging in pitiful acts of self-indulgence in an effort to re-create the incredible feeling of freedom and joy that led to their addiction in the first place. Nevertheless, this is all they are capable of doing in their pursuit of re-creating that sensation. This is exactly what is going on with the person who is addicted to drugs. Thus, I would like to state the following right here: Self-satisfaction refers to a state in which one is content with oneself; it is not synonymous with destructive addiction or self-indulgence. It is important to note that distinction at this point, which is very close to the conclusion of this piece.

Do what makes you happy in this life, which has a finite amount of time, and I say this even if the prospect of immortality is appealing to you. The next moment cannot be guaranteed in any way other than via the accomplishment of worthwhile and life-affirming endeavours. There is nothing that can take the place of life-giving productive action, and the only way to feel truly satisfied is to focus on what you can honestly and productively do for yourself in a way that is useful. That may come across as conceited and revolting to some people, but it is sincere and accurate.

My name is Joshua Clayton, and I’ve been working as a freelance writer out of Inglewood, California, for the past three years. My true name is Joshua Clayton, but I go by a few pen names and aliases when I write. These days, however, I use my real name almost exclusively when I write. I consider myself to be a writer of intellectual works, as well as an impartial thinker and an honest doer. I have a few different jobs, although writing is my primary occupation. One of them is at a senior facility in Gardena, California, and I also do other things.
