SEO Glossary Terms
Heading tags: Heading tags are parts of any website for creating headings (titles) and sub-headings. Heading tags can be categorize from H1 up to H6.
Index/Indexing: Indexing refers to the process of adding web pages to search results.
Internal link: Internal Link is the process of linking to your articles. This is linking to one page or article from your domain.
JPG/JPEG: It’s an image file format for uploading to the web and displaying on pages.
Keyword: In terms of SEO, a keyword or phrase to search for various things in search engines.
Keyword Planner: Keyword Planner allows you to search for keywords that are related to AdWords.
Landing page: Landing page is also known to be a lead capture webpage. This page is standalone and focuses on conversion.
Link Bait: Link bait is the act of attracting users using enticing content to get backlinks to your article.
Local SEO is the process of listing your company locally. Learn more about Local SEO.
MailChimp: MailChimp allows bloggers to send out newsletters, such as product updates and breaking news, directly to their readers emails.
Meta DescriptionIt’s the summary of your page or post. It is a 320-character text. Your meta description is a ranking factor and should be optimized.
Navigation: Navigation refers to the area of a website that allows you to create clickable links. It is usually located in the Header, Footer, or sidebar.
NoFollow: NoFollow refers to a link attribute in anchor tags ( rel=”nofollow) to stop search engines from passing link juice to other websites.
NoIndex: If you don’t want to index any web pages in the search engine, then you should use NoIndex. It is the meta tag that tells search engines (GoogleBot, BingBot), not to index any page or blog post.
Open Graph Protocol (OGP): Open Graph Protocol (OGP) by Facebook. It can be used to assign properties such as title, description, and image.

Organic Traffic: Organic traffic is traffic that your website receives from search engines without having to pay. The focus of webmasters is always on Organic Traffic.
Outbound link: Outbound link is also known by the term External link.
Page Authority, (PA): The Page Authority Metric is created by Moz. It tells you how high a page ranks in SERP. It uses a score between 0 and 100. The higher the score, the better the ranking.
Permanent Link: A Permalink (or Permanent link) is a unique URL that’s assigned to every page and post.
Plugin: This plugin adds additional functionality to your website. Plugins can enhance the user experience.
Post: A post can be any combination of text and images. It could be information on a topic.
Post Slug: Post Slug refers to a part URL that includes the root domain.
Query: Query refers to the question.
RankBrain: RankBrain ranks high in the search engine results pages. This is a Google machine learning algorithm that improves search results.
Reciprocal link: Reciprocal link is the exchange of a website link between two webmasters or bloggers.
Rich Cards: After the success of Rich Snippets Rich Cards are the better search results, especially for Mobile Devices.
Rich Snippets: Rich snippets are structure data that improve the results in Google Search.
Robots.txt: This is a text file that can communicate with web crawlers. It tells web bots like GoogleBot, BingBot, and others how to crawl the pages or index them in the search engine.
Root Domain: Root Domain refers to the main website.
RSS: This short syndication is used in Email Marketing. Visitors subscribe to the newsletter to receive it in their email. They can also receive blog updates via the feed reader software or app.
Search console: Search Console is a Google service that enhances your web presence. These are also known as Webmaster Tools. It allows you to optimize your blog/website to make it more efficient, check your indexing, and submit your sitemap.
Sitemap: There are two types of sitemaps: HTML Sitemap and XML Sitemap. An XML sitemap is what we normally use daily.
Theme: The theme usually uses CSS. This is the conversion of your templates into visual elements with CSS.
Title Tag: The title tag (HTML element) is a title tag. The symbol for the title of any blog post is a ().
Unique Content: Unique content generally means that you should not copy posts from other blogs or websites. This is one of the ranking criteria. It must be original and novel.
Vlog: Vlog means Video Blogging. You will mostly see videos in the vlog.
Website Speed: It is one of the ranking elements in SEO. This refers to speed at which your website loads. The website will rank higher if it loads quickly.
White Hat: White Hat SEO is simply optimizing your website to the Official Guidelines. It does not mean that you are violating any rules.
Widget: is generally in the sidebar.
WordPress: WordPress is open-source software that allows you to create stunning websites and blogs. It is a Content Management System (CMS) that Matt Mullenweg founded, and it is one of the easiest to use.
XML sitemap: XMLSitemap is an a.xml document that lists website URLs to submit to webmasters to get an index.
Yoast is a WordPress SEO plugin with many features. It is one the most used plugins, with millions of installed. It’s a freemium plugin.
ZIP File: Most people are familiar with the Zip file.
